To become an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Instructor with the American Heart Association (AHA), here’s the comprehensive guide with clickable course links, required supplies, and costs:

  1. Meet Prerequisites:

    • Current ACLS Provider Certification: Ensure you have a valid AHA ACLS Provider card, or take the HeartCode ACLS course ($168.00) if you're not currently certified.
    • Proficiency in ACLS Skills: Demonstrate competence in all ACLS skills.
    • Age Requirement: Be at least 18 years old.
  2. Complete Required Pre-Courses:

    • Cost of the Course: $550.00, which includes your ACLS Instructor Manual.
    • In-Person Session: Attend a hands-on, classroom-based session conducted by AHA Faculty.
  4. Align with Your AHA Training Center / Training Site:

    • Training Site: Your Training Site will be Shell CPR, LLC.
    • Required Documentation: Complete the AHA Instructor Candidate Application as required by Shell CPR, LLC and sign an Instructor Agreement with Shell CPR, LLC.

     

  5. Required Supplies:

    • Supplies cost can vary, but a basic setup package is available to get you started for $850.00.
    • Basic Equipment Needed:
      • Airway Manikin Head
      • Arm for blood pressure cuff and oxygen sensor
      • EKG Leads (3) – Red, White, and Black
      • Blood Pressure Cuff
      • Nasopharyngeal Airway (NPA)
      • Oropharyngeal Airway (OPA)
      • Intubation Tools
      • Endotracheal Tube
      • BLS Manikin with Feedback Device
      • Ambu Bag
      • Drugs – Fake syringes with drug labels
  6. Undergo Monitoring:

    • After completing the Instructor Essentials Course, teach your first ACLS course under the supervision of AHA Faculty within six months.
  7. Maintain Instructor Status:

    • Teach Regularly: Conduct at least four ACLS classes over two years.
    • Renew Certification: Be monitored while teaching one of these classes to renew your instructor status.
