American Heart Association Instructor Courses

The American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor Courses are designed to prepare qualified candidates to teach AHA courses, empowering them to train others in life-saving skills. These courses equip future instructors with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver high-quality instruction in CPR, First Aid, and advanced cardiac care following AHA guidelines.

Who Should Attend?

The Instructor Courses are ideal for individuals who are:

  • Passionate about teaching and sharing life-saving skills
  • Experienced in healthcare, emergency response, or related fields
  • Looking to expand their role within an AHA Training Center

Available Instructor Tracks:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Instructor Course: Train others in the essentials of high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants, including AED use.
  • Heartsaver Instructor Course: Prepare to teach workplace-focused CPR, AED, and First Aid skills to non-medical professionals.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Instructor Course: Guide healthcare providers in pediatric emergency assessment and care.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Instructor Course: Train advanced-level providers in managing cardiovascular emergencies.

What You Will Learn:

During the Instructor Course, participants will:

  • Master AHA instructional methods, including the effective use of videos and hands-on practice
  • Learn to assess and evaluate student performance
  • Gain insights into the administrative responsibilities of teaching AHA courses, including eCard management and course paperwork
  • Participate in teaching scenarios and practice delivering lectures and skills stations

Prerequisites:

  • Current AHA certification in the discipline you wish to teach (e.g., BLS, ACLS, or PALS)
  • Completion of the AHA Instructor Essentials online course for the desired discipline
  • Affiliation with an AHA Training Center

Certification:

Upon successful completion of the Instructor Course, candidates receive their AHA Instructor card, valid for 2 years. This credential allows them to teach and issue AHA course completion cards under the guidance of their Training Center.
